kenji

this is kenji in front of a stand selling very sweet ginseng/cinnamon tea with a dessert we couldn't figure out, but good. kenji is from japan studying medicine in new zealand. he's taking a year off to work and travel. i had met him in barcelona where we were staying at the same hostel. hanged out together a couple times, found out that we were both going to marrakesh and decided to meet up again. he's currently in the middle of a two month long around the world trip! he started in new zealand and has been to toronto, mexico city, lima, buenos aires, madrid, barcelona and marrakesh. tomorrow he'll be going to some small moroccan town on the coast for the night then back to marrakesh then to madrid. back in madrid he'll continue to hungry, romania, bulgaria, turkey, london, thailand, taiwan, and finally japan. my trip is nothing compared to his. though we seem to have a few common elements as travellers. he and i are both trying to save our money and don't really do anything that cost money, and eat cheap and very little. he's already saying he doesn't have enough cash and needs to contact his credit card company and/or his family. it was funny to hear him complain about all the vendors saying, "japan, japan" to him (i get it too). it really annoys him and it was great cuz i definately related. we both got it when we were walking around together. not sure if it still annoyed him with me also present taking some of the "ni hao", "konnichiwa", "jackie chan" from the vendors. anyways, it was nice meeting someone with somewhat the same attitude and experience about race while travelling.
